If traveling is a job then Ed Schofield would be employee of the month. This young photographer from a small town just south of good old London UK, has spend most of his time traveling around the world. Accompanied by his close friends and camera he sets sail to explore and document the world through his viewfinder. The result is a everlasting 2 frames a day documentary about his adventurous life. We took our chance to conduct an interview with this neo Jules Verne while he was back on solid ground.
At the Paint & Beer event in Amsterdam last week, we had the honor to meet up with the talented Martin Squires from London. Besides the fact he's a great fella, we were intrigued by his works existing out of oil paint, ink, spray paint or a combination of. Not limiting himself, he can get along with all kinds of mediums. Martin was kind enough to lend us two of his artworks, which will be on display for a month in Canvas, Amsterdam! (more details on that later on). Seeing I was quite hammered at Paint & Beer, we thought we'd leave the Q&A for the e-mails.
Almost a year after the first test issue the second issue of crack magazine is a fact. The CFYE brand and network has expanded during this year beyond our imagination, and we've only just begun. This issue (digital only) is put together by our good friend and respected designer Meneer de Zwart, who had the difficult task to narrow down the huge amount of submissions and contributions.
David Richardson lives in a 'behind the scenes' adventure. Music gigs, artists, late night parties, beautiful women, (drunken) friends and drunken crowds are some of the subjects found in this London based photographer's work. His pictures are somehow realer then life. Maybe that's because of the film grain, maybe it's because of the moments he chooses. I don't know, but whatever it is, it keeps us coming back to his photos time and time again!
There's been a flood in the UK lately, loads of places got hit by a massive amount of the infamous pink stickers. There are several sources distributing CFYE in the UK, but there might be one who is the most notable: Nine-O. We have yet to meet the good man, but reliable sources tell us there are not many more people who are so enthusiastic when talking about street art/graffiti. Not only an artist himself, but a big fan as well, he became CFYE ambassador in the UK in no time. Not only that, he also blogs on crackforyoureyes.com every once in a while. More then enough reason to give him a proper introduction!
The UK scene is amazing right now, there's so much talent coming from there..it's mindblowing. Also, in some areas like Bristol, the general attitude towards street art seemed to have shifted and people start to appreciate it a lot more. Things like the Banksy expo in the Bristol Museum and events like Upfest seemed to be the turning point. Of course this wouldn't have been possible without the massive amount of talented artists rising up in the UK scene right now. And even though there is such a huge number of artists coming out from the UK, there are always those who stand out. Snik is one of those people who do, and is destined to do great things with his painting skills! Not too long ago he painted the Royal Albert Hall as part of the wonderland collective, and a little while after that an amazing job at the Armani Exchange store in London. About time we'd send the good man some questions, and luckily he even found the time to answer.
Some people catch your eyes quicker than others. I can not recall when I first heard about the in Ireland born Finbarr Notte (aka Finbarr DAC). It was probably via the infamous photo community site called Flickr, where almost every self respected urban artist is exhibiting his/her work. I do, however, remember when I first saw the man at work. It was at the Wonderland Collective show at London's Light Bar earlier this year. I guess I can say that I was more than a bit impressed by his way of working and the final result. So, a good reason to expose Mr Finbarr Notte on CFYE.
Unfortunately, we at CFYE lacked time/money/resources to go to London for the great Bazaart art event organized by LAB (Little Art Book). Artists from the likes of Pure Evil, Eelus, Rugman, BonBon, Dave the Chimp, Rourke Van Dal, The Krah, Fark FK, Fake, Hutch, Vilchez, Tek 13, OTP, Snub, Ben Slow, Focus, Mishfit, Asboluv, Maxim, Oh Death, Adam Mallett, Dan Kitchener, Mo Coppoletta, Sin House, Busk, Randomcuts, Blam and Grafter showed their skills in a gigantic 5000 square feet venue in the heart of Bethnal Green, London. Fortunately, representing the Netherlands, Fake was out there as well. Besides putting up some fantastic work, he took the time to snap some pictures for CFYE...
