c215-6

If there's one street artist that didn't stop amazing us in 2009, it's C215 aka Christian Guemy. The Parisian stencil artist with an undeniable unique cutting style has been a busy bee the past year! With many trips, shows, a forced pause by meningitis, collaborations and amazing work after work C215 has grown visibly. And if that wasn't enough Christian turned the neighborhood he resides in (Vitry-sur-seine) into a real street art gallery, inviting some of his favorite artists to paint the streets along side of him.

Overall 2009 showed amazing works of C215. His style evolved greatly, but he also had a few copycats along the way and even someone stealing one of his pieces right of the streets. Recently we started a series of articles dedicated on the year 2009 of C215. Enough reason to ask the man himself how he experienced 2009 and what he will be up to in 2010!

Like I often say, there is a big sea of street artists, and especially stencil artists out there at the moment. Some market themselves like crazy, others just hope their talents get them noticed, and some don't even care if they get noticed and just do what they love. Puddeneen just does what he loves. From Braunschweig, Germany and Just 20 years old, he's not planning to quit his day job and does his thing with no pressure at all. Making most of his stencils of his own sketches, the fun and originality can be seen in his work, and we think he has quite the potential! Such talent must be shared.

Martin Squires

At the Paint & Beer event in Amsterdam last week, we had the honor to meet up with the talented Martin Squires from London. Besides the fact he's a great fella, we were intrigued by his works existing out of oil paint, ink, spray paint or a combination of. Not limiting himself, he can get along with all kinds of mediums. Martin was kind enough to lend us two of his artworks, which will be on display for a month in Canvas, Amsterdam! (more details on that later on). Seeing I was quite hammered at Paint & Beer, we thought we'd leave the Q&A for the e-mails.

The UK scene is amazing right now, there's so much talent coming from there..it's mindblowing. Also, in some areas like Bristol, the general attitude towards street art seemed to have shifted and people start to appreciate it a lot more. Things like the Banksy expo in the Bristol Museum and events like Upfest seemed to be the turning point. Of course this wouldn't have been possible without the massive amount of talented artists rising up in the UK scene right now. And even though there is such a huge number of artists coming out from the UK, there are always those who stand out. Snik is one of those people who do, and is destined to do great things with his painting skills! Not too long ago he painted the Royal Albert Hall as part of the wonderland collective, and a little while after that an amazing job at the Armani Exchange store in London. About time we'd send the good man some questions, and luckily he even found the time to answer.

c215-2

It must have been a little over a year ago when Chris Guemy, aka C215, drew my attention. It was on the streets of Barcelona where I first laid eyes on his work, and honestly it stopped me dead in my tracks. Even in a city like Barcelona, which is filled with pieces, installations, stickers and stencils this work stood out clearly. A week later I found more of his work, freshly painted in Amsterdam and the fascination with this Parisian artist was complete. For those who don't know about C215, I strongly advice to have a look at his work plus the interviews on his Flickr profile and come back to this one afterwards. For those who do, please proceed!

Not too long ago we came across the works of Priest. Priest is from Alabama..now I know what you're thinking but NO he does not wear a big white cap in the weekend, nor does he miss much teeth and dates his sister. Actualy, Priest knows exactly how to present himself right. Not that he needs to, because his works speaks before him. I'm guessing we'll hear a lot more from Priest, but let's start out with SPAM! on cfye.
