Home interviews street art / graffiti spam! with nest da foe

Nest da Foe

We first laid eyes on the work of Nest da Foe in Barcelona last year, and decided to look him up to find out what this German based artist is up to, and what keeps him busy. With other words, we spammed him! Please have a look and see what he has to say in SPAM! with Nest da Foe.

What were you doing the moment you received these questions?

Ooooh, ...smellin bad taste! Because my oven-pizza is going to become a coal. ;-(. Also I`m on to go in the city and use the better weather for some FOE-paste-ups.

Which cartoons did you used to watch as a kid, and which were your favorites?

I liked and still do...POPEYE. Maybe thats the cause I never had trouble with my mom eating my spinach. He teached me well about eating more vegetables!!! ....tüüütüüüü. Also I was a big fan of Roadrunner & the coyote.

What is your favorite gaming character?

Hey, don`t waste your time hangin in front of the screen all day!!! I`m not into gaming since a lot of years. But as a young boy Sonic the Hedgehog was makin me crazy. Spending the whole day on my Sega Megadrive. I loved the kind of level-creation the producers worked out at that time. It was totally new and innovative.

"Hangin around in the streets and use them for an "Illegallery" is the best thing besides makin love. ;-) It just makes me smiling. ...IT`S A BEAUTIFUL THING!!!"

What got you into to street art, and what makes you keep on doing it?

I`m into graffiti since 1995/1996. Get in touch because of the HipHop-Music and their elements. But the "new" kind of street art gets me about 2001. At that time I mainly saw the sticker-medium. The famous "Postaufkleber", which you can get for free at the german post-office was used everywhere in public for street art. I saw tags, characters, messages, weird stuff and of course stencils on it. That was the time stencilling catched me. For me it was the new thing. To create and prepare artwork at home and give it then to the streets.

I think this transports a higher quality and better-lookin than working directly on the wall with the pressure of time and limits of spots. Because, for example with a telescope I can reach all spaces. The fact of still being totally flashed and fascinated (after finished mad cutting over hours and days) about the result of a multi-layer stencil is pushing me on and on for more. And of course all the different materials and mediums you can use. Hangin around in the streets and use them for an "Illegallery" is the best thing besides makin love. ;-) It just makes me smiling. ...IT`S A BEAUTIFUL THING!!!

What was the first thing you put up on a wall?

I think my first tag ""M.A.D.(Mother Against Dad, because of the divorce of my parents) in 1995. At that time I don`t really had a clue about graffiti and what I was doing. Well, here`s the PEEP-project we were doing around 2001. Big Brother is watching you! Strange new times. It was the new thing. Experimental. Instead of using the usual letter-graffiti. Greetz to Bitch 106 and Sergeant(3st)! ;-)

Legal or illegal?

Both. There was a time I`d answered this with "illegal". But working at home on canvas, sculpturing, etc. is fine as well. The last years I was asked more and more taking part on Exhibitions. And I enjoyed this too. But I don`t forget to reclaim the streets!!! hahahaha...To have a chilled day on a legal wall and paint with my friends is also exciting.

Which artist would you like to work with in the future?

Puuuh. Thats a difficult question. There are so much great artists out there. I`m looking forward to visit as much places and cities as possible and stay open for everyone who is open to me.

Favorite city, and favorite thing about it?

At the moment Barcelona is my favorite. Because there`s such a high level of cultural influences. And it lies by the sea, which is a big reason for me. The city is full of graffiti and street art. Like a public gallery. Check it!

What is your favorite music/genre/artist/album

I don`t have a favorite. It depends on my mood which genre and artist. As a teen I heard Rock/Metal. Then HipHop catched me. Now its just every kind of music.

What is your favorite item to take on the road with you?

Paint and a creative mind. The rest comes by itself...

Best graffiti/street art spot we should check out:

Like I said ... Barcelona is awesome. I think Berlin and NewYorkCity are worth to see as well. Oh, and maybe Prague.

If you could fill a swimming pool with something, what would it be?

mmmmh...Beer. Ratskrone Export! And my friends, who empty it... to skate all day long after the party.

Bill (PC) or Steve (MAC)?

I choose Bill Withers and Steve O. ;-)

What can we expect from you in the future?

More public decoration and new creations. Summer is coming! cheers.
