Maybe it has something todo with the fact that it’s freezin cold outside, but latley I’ve being spending some serious time on Flickr again. When we first started out with shuttercrack, I was literally day and night on the hunt for appealing work and photographers. Slowly I am getting back into that mode again (but way more balanced now, no more sleeping with laptops). During my hunt today I stumbled on this truly amazing portrait of a young girl.
“I’m a teacher at an inner city elementary school in Baltimore, Maryland. I developed an interest in photography about a year ago when I began bringing my camera to school. Seeing the children I teach through the lens of my camera has allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of who they are. I’m passionate about photographing my students in their urban environment and I also enjoy using my camera to study the Baltimore street scene.” - Meredith Brown
The fact that she goes out on the streets and takes the effort to chit chat with random strangers, is something what more people should do. For me that’s DIY community development for dummies! I really hope she will produce a book of her “Faces of Baltimore” project in the future (just a small hint)!
