Barcelona is a magical city and one of the favourite CFYE destinations in Europe. From the amazingly relaxed squares in the Gracia barrio to the immensely crowded Ramblas area, it all has its charm. Of course, there’s another reason why we like Barcelona, and that’s the immense amount of graffiti and outside art you can find in the city. One of the first times we took a walk through Barcelona we were awed by the amount of art to be found on the streets. Names like Tom14, Dr.Case and Olivia, Pez, Kenor, Ovni, Pelele and many more dominated the city streets.
Strolling through the Barrio Gotico, we stumbled upon an amazing gallery tying together much of the magic happening on the streets of Barcelona: the Base Elements Gallery. This gallery representing amazing artists like Btoy, Uriginal, Pez, Kenor, Monix, Rallito-X and many more! Not too long ago, the gallery moved to a new space in the Barrio Gotico as well, and of course we had another visit to have a look at the new location, the beautiful artworks and the kind co-owner of the gallery Robert.
Robert Burt hails from California and founded the Base Elements gallery together with his wife Monica Riu (Monix), who’s a Barcelona native. Being a sculptor and organizer himself, Robert has been involved in many art-shows and events in the states, where he met his wife. Being captivated by Barcelona, Robert asked his wife if she was willing to move back to her hometown, and so they did. In 2003 they founded the gallery and created a place where some of their favourite artists can showcase their works and be appreciated as true artists.
Whenever you’re in Barcelona, make sure to stop-by this amazing place and send them our regards! C/ del Palau 6 (Barrio Gótico), Barcelona
