Our friend CodeFC is a frequent visitor of South-East Asia. We’ve seen some nice works Code made in that area, but none as striking as his most recent series in Sri Lanka. I think most of you know that there has been a civil war waging in Sri Lanka between the government and the Tamil Tigers since the early 80’s. In 2009, the Tigers were defeated by the military and ever since we haven’t heard…Read More »

You can’t deny that iconizing is a huge part of ‘modern’ street art. I don’t know if it’s the legacy of Andy Warhol or that it’s just the easy thing to do, but stencilling, illustrating, spray-painting and altering icons or iconic sights, symbols, photographs seems to make-up a big part of what we call street art. That is not necessarily a bad thing though, it might be a good mirror of our current civilization; Worshipping God(s) made place for idolising and iconizing celebrities and…Read More »
I don’t know if I’m just getting older or that I’ve been sniffing too much paint fumes but the years seem to pass by very quickly since we’ve started the CFYE platform. As we speak it’s already three years ago when we started with this project, though it feels like It was only yesterday when you could find Kaymir and myself in coffeeshop Siberie in Amsterdam every other afternoon. That’s where we hung out to enjoy our tea, our J and to put the…Read More »
It’s not too long ago I met ‘performance artist’ (by lack of better words) Abner Preis. What stands out from that encounter is one sentence Abner said to me: “Most artists are a bunch of wankers”. Like with most things I don’t understand right away, I gave it a smile and let it pass. After a few days I gave it some thought and it doomed: He’s right! you guys are a bunch of fucking wankers aren’t you? With every fucking piece of work…Read More »
In the CFYE columns you will meet the (opiniated) thoughts of inspiring artists from within the CFYE network. This time we have photographer Anthony Cronin, based in Dublin, Ireland. If you want to know more about him, read the interview with Anthony Cronin first. Dublin City Centre, Moore Street on a Sunday in July: A group of Roma Gypsy women some with children, bustling down the footpath in a hurried fashion passed me by. Then my ears caught the sound of Irish…Read More »
We at CFYE asked ourselves: What is a professional anyway? Especially in creative lines of work like photography. What defines someone’s level of competence? We didn’t go to art school so we can’t lay it out in big expensive words for you, but for example: Street art doesn’t know any professionals, nor amateurs. There are people that make their living with it, there are kids that do it because they don’t have anything else to do. It knows no limits or boundaries and is,…Read More »
